AVID

AVID is an elective class that meets 3 days per week. Students take AVID in 9th or 10th grade, and again in 12th grade.

• One class per week is spent developing academic and life skills necessary for success in college, like writing, note taking, research and study skills.

• One class per week consists of tutor-led study groups

• One class hour per week is focused on team building, motivational activities and career and college exploration.

• Participate positively and fully in the AVID course and requirements.

• Successfully complete rigorous college preparatory classes.

• Participate in school activities and step up as student leaders.

• Apply to and attend education after graduating high school.

• Demonstrate individual determination and commitment to success.

• Instruction and guidance in strengthening the skills and behaviors for academic success in high school and beyond

• Mentorship and guidance through tutorials and strong student/teacher relationships

• Exposure to different career opportunities

• Guidance to apply for education after high school and financial 

• A positive peer group

• A sense of personal pride and achievement gained through hard work and determination

AVID student profile

• 2.0 - 3.5 GPA
• Good attendance
• Desire to continue education after high school
• Motivation and determination to succeed

AVID students must meet one or more of the following criteria

• Will be the first in their family to attend college
• Identify as a member of a racial/ethnic group that is under-represented on college campuses
• Qualify for free/reduced-price lunch
• Special circumstances unique to the student

AVID prerequisites include the following:

• AVID application, interview and selection process

Application process is open to students in grades 9-11.
